Customer Service Assistant - Wickes
Wickes Uxbridge:
April 2019 - December 2019
Wickes Nottingham Central:
February 2023 - Present
At Wickes, I had a number of responsibilities. On the shop floor, I was responsible for the organisation and cleanliness of a section of shelves. I was praised by managerial staff for my efficiency and dedication in completing the task consistently to a very high standard. I also worked on the tills; performing transactions, click and collect services, paint mixing, refunds as well as cashing up my till at the end of the shift, all whilst solving problems for customers and on behalf of colleagues. I had to learn all of these processes quickly and execute them under pressure, which I did with a high degree of success. Training in some of these operations was optional, but I never turned down the opportunity to take on additional responsibility. Working at Wickes also taught me valuable time management and empathy skills, as well as the merits of being a team member who works hard for the collective good. In 2019, my employment at Wickes was amicably ended so I could focus on my A-Level studies. Having had such a positive experience working at Wickes previously, in February 2023 I decided to rejoin the company during my self-directed placement year. This employment helped to fund my projects and business ventures, but also provided further opportunity for primary insight into the DIY and construction industry which would assist my personal sustainability projects.
Skills:
- Communication and empathy whilst dealing with customers at the till and on the shop floor.
- Problem-solving for customers and team members whilst simualtaneously performing shop floor duties.
- Creativity when handling customer queries and tight working deadlines.
- Collaborative team working used to meet demanding target and solve logistical problems.
- Promoting product offers, performing sales demos and prospecting new sales opportunities on the till and on the shop floor.
Work Experience - Thomson Reuters
Canary Wharf - London
July 2018 - 1 Week
As a result of my performance at Palfinger, I was recommended to a senior project manager at Thomson Reuters for further work experience. At the company, I was involved in the acquisition of the Financial and Risk department of Thomson Reuters by Blackstone LLP. Here, I was tasked with handling a number of data spreadsheets, scheduling meetings between team members as well as solving general IT issues. Additionally, I was able to sit in on a number of meetings with clients and observe the session. This experience demonstrated to me the nature of professional office discourse as well as the roles and responsibilities of a project manager. As a result, I have acquired a number of advanced management skills as well as an understanding of customer relations management.
Skills:
- Communication between departments within each firm during the merger process.
- Data handling through the use of spreadsheet software.
- Time management and organisation whilst scheduling departmental and inter-departmental meetings.
- Punctuality when required to commute into the Thomson Reuters offices in central London.
- Professionalism and inter-personal skills whilst interacting with individuals from both organisations involved in the merger.
